Marwa Rahmoun Wins Three Medals at African Archery Championships

Algerian archer Marwa Rahmoun achieved significant success at the African Archery Championships held in Oran, securing a total of three medals. Among her accolades, Rahmoun, aged 23, clinched the individual barebow women's title. She further contributed to Algeria's medal tally by winning a mixed team gold alongside Chafik Mekki, and a women's team silver with teammates Chaima Bedboudi and Hana Medjiah.

Rahmoun's journey to these championships involved a switch to barebow archery earlier in 2026, a discipline new to her. The Algerian barebow team was formed from scratch by coach Djaafer Serir within a four-month timeframe specifically for the event in Oran. A notable challenge for Rahmoun was the acquisition of a professional bow, a hurdle overcome with the assistance of her former coach, Adlane Serir, who lent her his personal equipment.

Her triumph at the championships has brought considerable pride, with Rahmoun expressing her happiness at making her parents and Algeria proud. The collective effort and strong camaraderie among teammates, including Chafik Mekki who also transitioned to barebow, were highlighted as crucial to their success. Rahmoun has articulated her commitment to continuing to represent Algeria on continental and international stages, aspiring to win further medals and inspire future generations of athletes.
