Emergency Program Funds Algiers Water Sector with 200 Billion Centimes

An emergency program has allocated 200 billion centimes to Algiers province, designated for the reinforcement of its water sector. This significant financial commitment was announced during a field inspection visit to Algiers by Minister of Water Resources, Lounas Bouzegza, accompanied by Abdelnour Rabhi, the Governor of Algiers province. The visit included a comprehensive review of the water sector's status in the province, which detailed service indicators for public water and sanitation, alongside ongoing operations and planned initiatives to strengthen the water system.

The 200 billion centimes allocation within the new emergency framework is primarily directed towards the acquisition of essential equipment and intervention tools, as well as enhancing the capabilities of technical teams. This measure is intended to facilitate swift responses to malfunctions, rectify identified imbalances, and ultimately ensure the uninterrupted provision of public water services to residents. The program specifically targets an increase in the speed and effectiveness of field interventions, aiming to equip teams with the necessary resources to resolve bottlenecks, manage technical faults, and expedite maintenance operations to restore service promptly.

Beyond immediate interventions, the program emphasizes a broader strategy for sustainable improvements within Algiers' water infrastructure. Key priorities include the continued renewal and rehabilitation of water distribution networks to mitigate leaks and illegal connections.
