National Popular Army Foils Extensive Crime, Terror Operations

The Algerian Ministry of National Defence announced the operational results of the People's National Army (ANP) for the period between August 26 and September 1, highlighting extensive efforts against terrorism, organized crime, illegal gold mining, and irregular migration. These wide-ranging operations demonstrate the ANP's commitment to national security and border protection across various military regions, with significant activity reported along the country's southern borders and in areas prone to illicit activities.
In counter-terrorism operations, ANP detachments, in coordination with customs services in the Bordj Badji Mokhtar operational sector, recovered a heavy machine gun and seven Kalashnikov-type submachine guns along with ammunition concealed near the southern border. Additionally, eight individuals accused of providing support to terrorist groups were arrested in separate operations nationwide. Efforts to combat organized crime led to the arrest of 42 drug traffickers and the thwarting of attempts to smuggle 213 kilograms of processed cannabis across the border with Morocco. Further seizures included 2.16 kilograms of cocaine and 50,765 psychotropic tablets.
The ANP's mandate also extended to disrupting illegal gold prospecting in the southern provinces of Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, and In Salah. These operations resulted in the arrest of 353 individuals and the seizure of 28 vehicles, 302 electric generators, 180 pneumatic hammers, quantities of gold-bearing ore and stones, and equipment used in illicit mining. In other distinct operations, security forces apprehended eight additional people and confiscated two submachine guns, eight hunting rifles, 8,129 liters of fuel, and 32 quintals of tobacco.
Concurrently, Coast Guard units successfully intercepted multiple attempts at irregular migration along national coastlines, rescuing 210 people traveling aboard makeshift boats. Separately, ANP units apprehended 383 irregular migrants of various nationalities across the country. This comprehensive operational report underscores the People's National Army's sustained efforts in securing Algeria's borders and internal territories from diverse threats, reinforcing national stability and safety.
