Second Round of Iranian Presidential Elections Announced

The Iranian Ministry of Interior has announced that a second round of early presidential elections will be held next Friday between the leading candidates, Massoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili.

According to the official results released by the Ministry of Interior, the reformist candidate Massoud Pezeshkian is in first place, having garnered over 10 million and 415 thousand votes so far. He is followed by the conservative candidate Saeed Jalili, who received 9.5 million votes. The voter turnout was 40%.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf received 2 million and 676 thousand votes, while Mostafa Pourmohammadi secured 158 thousand and 314 votes.

Ministry of Interior election committee spokesperson Mohsen Eslami stated, “None of the candidates managed to secure an absolute majority of votes in the first round, thus the top two candidates will face off in a second round on July 5.”
