Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who announced his intention to run for a second presidential term, affirmed that his electoral program will focus on completing what has been accomplished and working to bring Algeria to a state of stability on all fronts.

During his regular media meeting held at the Palais des Nations, which was broadcasted on Thursday, President Tebboune revealed his intention to run for a second term “in response to the requests of many political and non-political parties and youth.”

The President emphasized that the significant results and achievements he takes pride in were made possible by the Algerian people. He reminded that during his initial candidacy, he had stated he was “the candidate of the youth and civil society,” and considered that “the most dangerous thing in such movements is stopping before reaching safety.”

He also noted that he would continue on the same path as a candidate for a second term, expressing gratitude to the political parties that supported him.

The President affirmed that Algeria has now become “respected, both militarily and politically, on all levels, where even adversaries acknowledge its successes.” He stated that the next term, if endorsed by the people, will be dedicated to “solidifying what has been started.”

In this context, President Tebboune mentioned that the previous term was effectively reduced to two and a half years, considering that the first two years focused on combating gangs and addressing the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that “Algerians are aware that their country has entered a zone of safety” and that “Algeria has become a country envied by others.”

He concluded by affirming that “Algerians have the right to accept or reject” his candidacy, noting that “sovereignty belongs to the people, who grant it to whomever they choose,” and highlighted his “deep faith, since his youth, in Algeria’s capabilities to prove its role in making history.”

President Tebboune also revisited some negative old practices that “remind Algerians of a painful past while we talk about a new Algeria,” expressing his discontent with these practices that need to cease.

After confirming that “Algeria and its people triumphed over the ‘counter-revolution,'” he warned that “there are still remnants and infiltrators waiting for opportunities,” recalling previous attempts by these groups to create instability through acts of sabotage, attacks on medical personnel, and attempts to create shortages—all of which were met with responses.

He also referred to the “fifth column” employed by foreign entities, which he has frequently mentioned, noting that many countries wish for Algeria’s instability as it would enhance their own power on various fronts.

He concluded by stating that “Algerians have realized that the battle was real, and we have made significant strides toward victory.”

Furthermore, the President highlighted the role of the Algerian diaspora in supporting comprehensive development, mentioning the state’s efforts to protect their interests, which has strengthened their national spirit.

Regarding his recent working visit to the Tizi Ouzou province, President Tebboune confirmed that it was “successful by all measures,” thanking the residents for their warm reception and adding that “the Tizi Ouzou province deserves all the care.”
