State Efforts Continue to Protect and Develop Archaeological Sites

Chlef – Minister of Culture and Arts, Soraya Mouloudji, affirmed on Sunday in Chlef that the state’s efforts to protect and develop archaeological sites across the country are ongoing through various new projects and initiatives.

Speaking to the press during a working visit to Chlef, the Minister emphasized, “Protecting cultural heritage, which is a part of our identity and history, is a priority for the Algerian state,” highlighting that the projects for the development and enhancement of archaeological sites are continuing across the nation.

In this context, Mouloudji announced the opening of four new branches of the National Agency for Protected Areas this year. These branches aim to develop conservation plans and oversee the maintenance and restoration of various archaeological sites across the country’s provinces.

The Minister also mentioned that her ministry has directed the executive directorates of culture to prepare at least five files in each province for the classification and protection of new archaeological sites.

During her visit, the Minister inaugurated several facilities, including the rural library “Martyr Abu Bakr Abdelkader” in the Si El Walid neighborhood of the Abou El Hassen municipality, the semi-urban library “Martyr Heni Belboula” in Kherimia, and the Regional Institute for Musical Training. She also launched the renovation project for the open-air theater in the Tenes municipality.

Additionally, Mouloudji attended the signing of an agreement between the Chlef Directorate of Culture and the Algerian Center for Cinema Development to utilize the “Martyr Mirawi Ahmed” cinema hall in Tenes. Highlights from the film “The Yellow Plane” by director Hajar Sabata were screened, with several actors from the film in attendance.

The Minister also visited the “Martyr Ali El Jir” Museum, managed by the National Office for the Exploitation and Protection of Cultural Property in Tenes, and the public national museum “Abdelmajid Meziane.” Furthermore, the House of Culture was named after the freedom fighter Saidi Mohamed.
