Athletics/Diamond League 2024: Algerian Djamel Sedjati Qualifies for Final

Algiers – Algerian middle-distance runner Djamel Sedjati has qualified for the 800m final of the 2024 Diamond League, set to take place in mid-September in Brussels (Belgium), the organizers announced on Sunday.

Sedjati, 25, secured his spot in the final thanks to his victories in the Paris and Monaco stages, where he recorded impressive times that are among the best in the discipline this season.

After excelling in the eighth stage in Paris with a time of 1:41.56, Sedjati repeated his success in the ninth stage in Monaco, completing the 800m in 1:41.46.

These results placed Sedjati in second place in the standings for the 2024 Diamond League final, with a total of 24 points.

Sedjati is just one point behind the current leader, Kenyan Wycliffe Kinyamal (25 points), and seven points ahead of his closest rival, Botswana’s Nijel Amos, who has 17 points.

Sedjati is one of eight athletes representing Algeria in athletics at the Paris Olympic Games, alongside Slimane Moula (800m), Mohamed Ali Gouaned (800m), Yasser Mohamed Taher Triki (triple jump), Amine Bouanani (110m hurdles), Oussama Khennoussi (discus throw), Zahra Tatar (hammer throw), and Bilal Tabti (3000m steeplechase).

Algeria will participate in the Paris Olympics (July 26 – August 11) with 46 athletes across 15 disciplines.
