Qatar Invited to Algeria’s 2026 Hydrocarbons Bid Round

Algeria's Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, hosted Moataz Al-Khayyat, CEO of the Qatari group Power International Holding, in Algiers on September 15 to discuss strengthening strategic energy cooperation. During the meeting, Mr. Arkab extended an invitation to the Qatari group and its subsidiaries to actively participate in the forthcoming Algerian Bid Round 2026. This initiative focuses on the development of available fields and exploration blocks within Algeria's hydrocarbons sector.
The discussions, which included Qatar’s Ambassador Abdulaziz Ali Al-Naama and a high-level delegation, centered on enhancing partnership across various domains. These areas encompass upstream and downstream oil and gas activities, transportation, refining, and petrochemicals, alongside commercial cooperation, with a specific emphasis on liquefied petroleum gas and petroleum products. Minister Arkab also outlined Algeria's hydrocarbons sector development program and highlighted the attractive investment advantages, facilities, and incentive legal frameworks provided by the country's hydrocarbons law for investors.
In response, Mr. Al-Khayyat conveyed his group's keen interest in expanding its investments in Algeria and collaborating with the Algerian national oil company Sonatrach on high-value-added projects within the hydrocarbons sector. He commended the quality of bilateral relations and recognized Algeria's favorable investment environment, underscoring the potential for deepened engagement between the two nations.
