Government Approves National Strategy Against Neighborhood Gangs

The Algerian government has officially adopted the National Strategy for the Prevention and Combat of Neighborhood Gangs for the period 2026-2029. This significant initiative, presented by the Minister of Interior, Local Communities and Transport, aligns with directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune focused on protecting Algerian families. The strategy was approved during a government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Seifi Gharib, where the implementation of presidential decisions was reviewed.

The newly adopted strategy is designed as an integrated and multi-faceted approach to address the issue of neighborhood gangs. It encompasses several key pillars: prevention, repression, reintegration, and awareness. This comprehensive methodology is intended to achieve critical objectives, including the protection of society, the maintenance of public order, and the assurance of peace and tranquility for citizens across the nation.

To ensure the effective implementation of this national plan, a joint ministerial meeting will be convened specifically to endorse the sectoral action plans. This meeting will also focus on mobilizing all necessary resources and establishing robust mechanisms for monitoring and performance measurement. The strategy itself is built upon the legal framework of Order No. 20-03, dated August 31, 2020, which relates to the prevention and combat of neighborhood gangs.
