New York Hosts Attaf for UN General Assembly Discussions

Minister Ahmed Attaf arrived in New York on an official mission to represent Algeria at the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Acting on instructions from the President of the Republic, this participation highlights Algeria's commitment to active engagement within the multilateral system. The nation's involvement at this high-level UN event further demonstrates its dedication to fostering international peace and security, advocating for just global causes, and promoting cooperation and solidarity among nations.

During his visit, Minister Attaf is scheduled to participate in the General Debate of the UN General Assembly, which will take place from September 22 to 28, 2026. This debate is centered around the theme "Rebuilding trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all." The high-level segment of the General Assembly includes several significant meetings addressing priority issues on the international agenda. These discussions encompass the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development, the 25th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action against Racism and Racial Discrimination, as well as high-level meetings concerning rising sea levels, climate action, and a just transition.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly's high-level proceedings, Minister Attaf will attend a series of ministerial meetings focused on various regional and international matters. Key topics include the Palestinian issue and developments in the Middle East, peace and security in Africa, and digital transformations. Algeria will also maintain its active presence within various regional and international frameworks and blocs, participating in coordination meetings and side encounters of the Arab League, the African Union, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Group of 77 and China. Additionally, Minister Attaf is set to hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts from friendly and brotherly countries to strengthen cooperative relations, enhance partnerships, and exchange views on pressing regional and international developments, alongside meetings with senior UN and international organization officials.
