Education Minister Inaugurates 2026-2027 School Year from Jijel

The 2026-2027 academic year has officially commenced in Algeria, with approximately 12 million students, including 1.1 million new enrollees, returning to their primary, middle, and secondary school desks. The Minister of National Education, Mohamed Seghir Sadaoui, inaugurated the new school year from Jijel, marking a significant national event for the education sector.

This academic resumption aligns with directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during a recent Council of Ministers meeting. President Tebboune underscored the necessity of optimally utilizing recent achievements and advantages within the education sector to ensure a successful and distinct school year. He further emphasized the importance of systematic and studied management to achieve quality and performance, along with a prudent investment in the substantial human resources the sector has acquired since independence.

In preparation for the new academic year, the Ministry of Housing, Urban Planning, and the City delivered 289 new educational facilities nationwide, comprising 151 primary schools, 90 middle schools, and 48 secondary schools. These infrastructure additions contribute to adapting the school map to the country's demographic evolution. Additionally, the education sector, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, is organizing the second National School Health Week, focusing on themes such as the relationship between trees and human health, and the impact of forest degradation on public health. Efforts were also made to renovate educational establishments affected by recent fires across several eastern and central wilayas.
