64,000 New Teachers Bolster Algerian Education System
The Algerian education system has initiated its 2026-2027 academic year with a substantial reinforcement of its teaching staff, as 64,000 newly recruited teachers have been deployed across the nation. This significant expansion aims to bolster stability and ensure effective management within educational institutions, serving nearly 12 million students, including 1.1 million new enrollees. The launch from Jijel governorate, specifically from a renovated school previously affected by fires, underscores the nation's commitment to providing a conducive learning environment, with over 30,591 institutions, including approximately 300 new facilities, now operational.
Alongside the increased staffing, the Ministry of National Education has overseen the extensive distribution of 80 million textbooks, which are available at over 700 educational sales points. Of these, 30 million books are provided free of charge to students in need and all first-grade primary students, with Braille books also supplied for special needs learners. These efforts highlight the state's significant investment in improving schooling conditions across all provinces, particularly in previously underserved areas, aligning with the President's directives to elevate the quality of Algerian education and foster intellectual and scientific development.
The sector is also advancing through key digital transformation initiatives, currently working on digitizing students' pedagogical and health records, a crucial step following the sector's integration with the national digital services portal. This digitization, coupled with inter-sectoral links with ministries such as Interior, Local Communities, Higher Education, and Vocational Training, ensures timely information access and enhanced operational efficiency. Furthermore, the introduction of a unified internal system for educational institutions aims to promote greater discipline and standardized management, while ongoing coordination with security agencies works to protect school environments. These comprehensive measures reflect the sustained efforts to achieve stable and high-quality educational outcomes, building on the positive results of the previous academic year.
