Doha Meeting Recognizes Algeria’s Anti-Corruption Efforts
Algeria is actively participating in the Sixth Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention, currently being held in Doha, Qatar, from September 21 to 23. The Algerian delegation, headed by Mr. M'hamed Djellaoui, Acting Head of the Supreme Authority for Transparency, Prevention and Fight against Corruption, includes representatives from the Supreme Authority, the Ministry of Justice, and the Central Office for the Repression of Corruption. During the session, Algeria, represented by Mr. Brahim Bougandakji of the Ministry of Justice, was elected rapporteur for the bureau of the Sixth Session, an election made during the meeting that saw Qatar elected president and Oman as vice-president.
The conference proceedings began with the ninth session of the open-ended general committee of governmental experts and independent bodies from 16 Arab state parties, including Algeria's Ambassador to Qatar, Saleh Attia. Discussions focused on the agenda for the current session and the preparation of draft resolutions for anti-corruption body heads. Participants at the conference commended Algeria's proactive efforts in implementing the convention, specifically noting its completion of the self-assessment questionnaire and the initiation of country review procedures to enforce the convention's provisions.
Experts deliberated on and recommended several draft resolutions, including the "Doha Declaration on Strengthening Preventive Measures against Corruption," enhancing the review mechanism for the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention, and improving the speed of responses to mutual legal assistance requests, alongside boosting transparency in beneficial ownership. Concurrently, Algeria engaged in bilateral discussions with Oman, emphasizing the importance of transparency and corruption prevention, further underlining its commitment to regional cooperation in combating corruption. The overall participation highlights Algeria's dedication to good governance and its constructive role in regional anti-corruption initiatives.
