Algiers Provides Hot Meals to Students on School Re-entry

Administrative districts across Algiers governorate successfully commenced the provision of hot and balanced meals to students beginning on the first day of the 2026-2027 school year, Monday, September 21, 2026. This initiative is a core component of a comprehensive program designed to bolster educational infrastructure and ensure the well-being of students throughout the academic year. Financial and human resources were specifically allocated by the Algiers governorate to efficiently manage primary schools and their associated catering facilities.

Ahead of the new school year, significant preparations were completed, including the expansion and renovation of 20 new school restaurants, complementing the existing 487 facilities. This effort was part of receiving 36 new educational institutions across various municipalities. Strict directives were issued for all restaurants to be fully equipped and adhere to rigorous standards, encompassing physical resources, kitchenware, and supplies necessary for serving hot and balanced meals daily while maintaining general hygiene and health conditions, alongside proper food preservation within school premises.

To guarantee the successful implementation of these measures, inspection committees were established in administrative districts such as El Harrach and Hussein Dey. These committees were tasked with verifying restaurant cleanliness, equipment maintenance, water tank safety, and overall sanitary conditions. Field visits by Algiers governors confirmed the completion of all preparations in school restaurants, a factor anticipated to positively influence the quality of meals provided. Parental feedback from areas like Bir Touta and Ouled Chebel affirmed the success of these efforts, with many noting the improved quality of school meals and the provision of optimal conditions for their children's education.
