Hamas Praises Algeria’s Firm Stance on Gaza, Palestinian Rights
Algeria's Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, emphasized the critical need to halt military operations in Gaza and restore the Palestinian issue to the forefront of the international agenda during a consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers in New York. He underscored that the Palestinian cause should not be limited to its humanitarian dimension and reaffirmed Algeria's steadfast rejection of any measures that undermine the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. Attaf further advocated for intensified joint Arab action on the international stage to uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Minister Attaf's diplomatic engagements in New York began with a meeting with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, where discussions centered on developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and strategies to amplify support for the Palestinian cause within the United Nations. He also held talks with the President of the UN General Assembly, Khalil Rahman, addressing regional and international developments, the significance of dialogue, diplomacy, and collective efforts toward peaceful resolutions. Attaf highlighted the importance of activating collective Arab efforts and strengthening coordination amid evolving regional and international landscapes, while also pointing to selective application of international legitimacy resolutions.
The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, through its representative in Algeria, Youssef Hamdan, expressed high appreciation for the strong message delivered by Algeria at the UN platform. Hamdan particularly commended Algeria's call for "practical international action" and its unequivocal rejection of undermining the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination. He underscored that this position is a natural continuation of Algeria's historical commitment to the Palestinian cause, viewing it as a national issue and defending it with a resolute diplomacy informed by Algeria's own liberation experience. Hamdan stressed the importance of converting diplomatic discourse into tangible actions and pressures to end the aggression and achieve an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
