Foreign Minister Attaf Advocates Joint Arab Action at New York Consultations

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf participated in a consultative meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers in New York, held on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. During the meeting, Minister Attaf underscored the necessity of activating joint Arab action within an international context characterized by selective application of international legitimacy resolutions, where regional countries bear the cost of absent political solutions.

Minister Attaf emphasized the critical importance of restoring the Palestinian cause to the forefront of the international agenda, advocating against its reduction to merely a humanitarian dimension. He also stressed the need to counter measures that seek to undermine the prospect of a Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy. Furthermore, Mr. Attaf reiterated Algeria's firm rejection of transforming the Arab region into an arena for proxy wars, particularly in light of current escalations in the Arabian Gulf.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the urgent need to address the crises affecting Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, and Libya. He called for the preservation of these nations' unity, the support of national political solutions, and the rejection of external interventions in their internal affairs. Mr. Attaf stated that the region requires practical steps and a focus on resolving the root causes of its crises, rather than mere promises. Algeria, he noted, looks forward to a unified, proactive, and effective Arab presence at the UN General Assembly, one that defends Arab rights, adheres to international law, and fosters dialogue and political solutions.
