Algiers – On Monday, Minister of Communication Mohamed Laqab held a meeting with unions and national associations active in the sector, in preparation for the celebration of National Press Day, observed annually on October 22, according to a statement from the ministry.
During the meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Communication and was attended by senior officials and representatives of subordinate institutions, the minister encouraged participating press organizations to contribute to enriching the celebration program prepared by the ministry. He listened to their various proposals and encouraged them to take the initiative in organizing meaningful activities for their national day.
Laqab urged professional partners to elevate journalistic work by improving content quality, diversifying topics, and adhering to journalistic ethics and the Organic Law on Information. He expressed regret over recent media lapses, where some outlets covered topics without verifying facts and without observing basic professional ethics.
The Minister reaffirmed the ministry’s support for all activities aimed at advancing the media sector, especially those led by unions and national associations. He emphasized the importance of cooperation and coordination to ensure the success of these initiatives, particularly in terms of training and fostering serious professional endeavors.
