Algiers – A total of 306 Algerian nationals, evacuated from Lebanon, arrived at Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers on Friday. This operation was carried out in accordance with the high-level directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to ensure the safety and care of the national community residing in Lebanon.
The evacuation was conducted through two special flights from Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport to Cairo International Airport, after which Air Algérie took responsibility for transporting the evacuees to Algiers.
This marks the second such operation following a similar one in August 2024, when more than 125 Algerians were evacuated.
Rachid Meddah, Director-General of Consular Affairs and the National Community Abroad, explained, “In response to the instructions of the President, a crisis cell was set up within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the very onset of the Israeli aggression on Gaza. This cell was tasked with assessing the situation of the Algerian community in the region. We have been in constant communication with Algeria’s embassies in Cairo, Beirut, Damascus, and Amman to closely monitor the situation and develop evacuation plans should the need arise.”
At Houari Boumediene International Airport, Meddah added, “Thanks to our dedicated efforts, we successfully evacuated 306 Algerian citizens and their spouses of various nationalities.”
The Algerian nationals expressed their gratitude to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the public authorities for their swift response and their safe return home under excellent conditions.
The evacuation was carried out earlier today, as per the President’s high-level directives to prioritize the safety and care of the Algerian community in Lebanon.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad issued a statement clarifying that all necessary resources were mobilized to ensure the success of the operation, guaranteeing that the nationals could return to their homeland in optimal conditions. The Ministry also emphasized its readiness to organize additional evacuations if necessary.
