Warnings Against Morocco’s Plan to Grant Citizenship to “Moroccan” Jews: A Move Toward the “Israelization” of the Kingdom

Rabat – Writers and journalists from Morocco and the broader Arab world have issued warnings about the Moroccan regime’s efforts to grant citizenship to the descendants of Moroccan Jews, viewing it as part of a strategy to “Israelize” the kingdom and establish a foothold for Zionists in Morocco. They are calling on the Moroccan people to stand firmly against this scheme.

Concerns Over “Israelization” of Morocco

A Moroccan writer based in Italy, Amin Bouchaib, expressed serious concerns about the legislative proposal that the Moroccan government is seeking to pass, which aims to grant citizenship to the children and grandchildren of Moroccan Jews. Bouchaib warned that the underlying objective is to settle Zionists in Morocco.

In an article, Bouchaib pointed out that many are unaware of the 1903 “Morocco Plan”, a proposal by the founders of the Zionist movement to settle a portion of the Jewish population in western Morocco. Although this plan was shelved, it was just one among many historical efforts aimed at securing a homeland for Jews, according to various sources.

Suspicion Around the Legislative Proposal

Recently, the Moroccan Ministry of Relations with Parliament announced it had received a legislative petition advocating for Moroccan citizenship to be granted to all descendants of Moroccan Jews. The proposal claims to seek the restoration of constitutional, political, religious, cultural, economic, and social rights for these individuals and their integration into Moroccan society.

However, Bouchaib described the proposal as “highly suspicious”, especially since the ministry did not disclose who submitted the petition. He noted that the Moroccan public has already voiced its rejection of the proposal, warning that passing it would effectively allow the naturalization and settlement of individuals involved in war crimes against the Palestinian people.

Bouchaib also speculated that the proposal could mark the beginning of the implementation of the old “Morocco Plan”, potentially enabling Zionists to assume top government positions in the future. “One day, we might wake up to find that a Zionist war criminal has been elected to a top position, perhaps even as Prime Minister of Morocco,” Bouchaib cautioned.

Legal Contradictions and Public Backlash

The writer questioned whether the Moroccan government was aware that current Moroccan law strips citizenship from individuals who voluntarily renounce it or who serve in public offices or military roles for foreign countries if these roles conflict with Moroccan national interests. This applies directly to “Moroccan” Jews who renounced their citizenship upon migrating to Palestine and later served in the Israeli military, Bouchaib explained.

He emphasized that the Moroccan people will not accept this legislative petition, which aims to grant Moroccan nationality to Zionists complicit in crimes in Gaza and Lebanon. He added: “Just as the Moroccan people protested against normalization, they will also rise up to reject this suspicious petition.”

Citing mass protests across Moroccan cities in support of Palestine and resistance against normalization, Bouchaib reaffirmed that Moroccans remain steadfast in their opposition. “The Moroccan people will never allow anyone—regardless of their position—to desecrate the legacy of their ancestors, who gave their lives for Jerusalem, either through normalization with Zionist criminals or by passing a petition to naturalize ‘Moroccan’ Jews and their descendants.”

Arab Media Joins the Call for Rejection

Renowned Arab writer and journalist Abdel Bari Atwan also voiced his opposition in a video shared on social media, urging the Moroccan people to reject the legislative petition. Atwan reminded viewers that hundreds of protests had already taken place across Morocco in support of Palestine and against normalization with Israel.

Atwan further warned that Zionists are planning for life after the potential collapse of Israel, revealing that over 1.25 million Israelis have already fled to Western countries, particularly Europe, due to the ongoing conflict. He stressed that Moroccan Jews cannot migrate to Europe because they lack European passports and have no place to go except Morocco. Therefore, the legislative petition is seen as a preparation for their return.

“These criminals, whose hands are stained with the blood of innocent civilians in Palestine and Lebanon, have no place on any Arab land,” Atwan said. He concluded by insisting that such individuals must be held accountable for their crimes rather than welcomed back into Morocco.
