October 24, 2024 – Abdel-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement (commonly known as the Houthis), reaffirmed his group’s ongoing support for Gaza amidst the Israeli offensive and declared their readiness for any potential escalation from the United States or Israel.
In a televised address broadcast on Al-Masirah TV, al-Houthi emphasized that the Yemeni front will maintain its stance in solidarity with Gaza, despite external pressure and aggression. “Our position of support for Gaza remains steadfast, and we have not relented despite American, Israeli, and British pressure and aggression,” he said.
He further warned, “We are preparing for any level of escalation that the U.S. and Israel might pursue,” adding that the group’s maritime operations and missile and drone strikes against Israeli-linked targets would continue. “Our operations targeting enemy ships and our strikes with missiles and drones into occupied Palestine are ongoing.”
Al-Houthi stressed that his group’s presence remains “active and operational at the peak of this battle,” calling attention to what he described as the unprecedented “Zionist crimes” being committed against Gaza.
Attacks on Israeli Interests and U.S.-Led Retaliation
In solidarity with Gaza, which has been under an intense Israeli assault supported by the U.S. since October 7, 2023, the Houthi movement has carried out drone and missile attacks targeting Israeli ships and affiliated vessels in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean. Additionally, the Houthis have launched several missile and drone attacks on Israel, including strikes on Tel Aviv.
Since the beginning of 2024, a U.S.-led coalition has conducted airstrikes on alleged Houthi positions across Yemen in response to the group’s maritime attacks. These strikes have been met with sporadic retaliatory actions from the Houthis.
The conflict took a significant turn in January 2024, when rising tensions prompted the Houthi leadership to declare that all American and British vessels operating in the region would be considered military targets.
Devastating Toll of the Gaza War
The ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza, described by al-Houthi as a “genocidal war,” has claimed the lives of more than 143,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, with over 10,000 still missing. The widespread destruction has resulted in famine conditions, leading to the deaths of dozens of children and elderly residents.
As the conflict escalates and regional tensions rise, the Houthi movement continues to position itself as an active player in the broader anti-Israel front, vowing to maintain its operations and readiness for further confrontations.
