Cairo, October 27, 2024 – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasized on Sunday that Algeria is exerting all possible efforts within the United Nations Security Council to stop the ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
During a joint press conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, held as part of Tebboune’s working and fraternal visit to Cairo, the Algerian leader praised the resilience of Gaza’s population. He condemned the “full-scale genocide” being committed by the Israeli occupiers and commended Egypt’s initiative to establish a humanitarian ceasefire that would allow the entry of essential supplies into Gaza. Tebboune reiterated that a lasting solution can only be achieved when the Palestinian people regain full control over their lands.
The president firmly stated, “Algeria is doing everything it can at the United Nations Security Council to put an end to the genocide being committed against Palestinians in Gaza.” He also reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering stance on the Palestinian issue, saying: “Our position has not and will not change. The ultimate solution is the establishment of a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
Algeria’s Diplomatic Commitment to Regional Stability
Beyond the Palestinian issue, Tebboune also addressed other pressing regional matters. On Libya, he reiterated Algeria’s consistent support for a “Libyan-led solution” through legitimate elections, without external interference.
Turning to the crisis in Sudan, Tebboune expressed his deep regret over the ongoing conflict between Sudanese factions. He highlighted that Algeria and Egypt have maintained a policy of non-interference, engaging only to promote reconciliation between the warring parties.
Algeria’s proactive stance reflects its broader commitment to regional stability, particularly in defending Arab causes and promoting peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
