
Algiers, October 28, 2024 – Acting on behalf of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Prime Minister Nadhir Larbaoui presided over the official installation of Mabrouk Zeid El Kheir as the new head of the Higher Islamic Council. This appointment follows the presidential decree issued on October 14, 2024, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the installation ceremony, Prime Minister Larbaoui extended his congratulations to the newly appointed president of the Higher Islamic Council, emphasizing the trust placed in him by President Tebboune. He highlighted “the significant importance that the President of the Republic assigns to this constitutional institution, given its essential role in promoting the true principles and values of Islam, safeguarding it from any political or ideological exploitation, and correcting misguided interpretations.”
The Prime Minister also praised Dr. Mabrouk Zeid El Kheir’s distinguished career, referring to him as “an eminent scholarly and religious figure who has dedicated his life to knowledge, academic work, and Islamic sciences.”
The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Higher Islamic Council in the presence of key national figures, including Mohamed Maamoun El Qasimi El Hassani, the Dean of the Great Mosque of Algiers; Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi; and Mohamed Hassouni, the Presidential Advisor on Religious Affairs, Zawiyas, and Quranic Schools. Members of the Higher Islamic Council were also in attendance.
