
Algiers – In honor of the 70th anniversary of Algeria’s Liberation Revolution, the epic historical production “Spirit of Algeria,” directed by Ahmed Rezzak, captivated audiences at the Mohamed Boudiaf Olympic Complex in Algiers on Wednesday evening. The event, produced by the Ministry of Mujahideen and Beneficiaries, was attended by prominent figures including Senate President Saleh Goudjil, Prime Minister Nadhir Arbaoui, Constitutional Court President Omar Belhadj, Minister of Mujahideen and Beneficiaries Laid Rebiga, along with numerous government officials, historical figures, artists, and an enthusiastic audience.
Minister Laid Rebiga, in his opening remarks, emphasized the significance of this commemoration, honoring the Algerians’ sacrifices to reclaim national sovereignty, and highlighted President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitment to preserving Algeria’s historical legacy. Rebiga described the performance as a tribute to the Algerian people’s enduring values across centuries, showing Algeria as a model of resilience admired worldwide.
The performance combined choreography, music, singing, and advanced audiovisual effects to showcase Algeria’s rich history. Over two months of preparation resulted in a grand production featuring approximately 1,000 participants, including artists and technicians from 17 Arab nations. Across 13 scenes, the show spanned Algeria’s ancient history through four main epochs: the Numidian period, the Islamic era, the French colonial period, and finally, independence.
With a duration of two hours, “Spirit of Algeria” depicted the global significance of the Algerian Revolution, emphasizing its inspiration to other freedom-seeking nations, including Palestine and Western Sahara. The show also highlighted Algeria’s legacy as a haven for revolutionaries, drawing in influential global figures.
