Algiers – The Algerian national football team resumed training on Friday evening at the Sidi Moussa Training Center, ahead of their final Group E match against Liberia. The game is set to take place on Sunday at 5:00 PM (local time) at the “Hussein Aït Ahmed” Stadium in Tizi Ouzou, as part of the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), according to an official statement from the Algerian Football Federation (FAF).
Return from Equatorial Guinea
The Algerian squad returned to Algeria on Friday after a goalless draw against Equatorial Guinea in Malabo on Thursday. Upon their arrival, coach Vladimir Petkovic’s players headed directly to Sidi Moussa for some much-needed rest before resuming preparations.
Group E Standings
After the fifth round of matches, Algeria tops Group E with 13 points, followed by:
- Equatorial Guinea: 8 points
- Liberia: 4 points
- Togo: 2 points
Algeria and Equatorial Guinea have already secured qualification for the AFCON finals, rendering the sixth and final round of matches—Algeria vs. Liberia and Togo vs. Equatorial Guinea—essentially procedural.
Path to the 2025 AFCON
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the tournament, scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. Additionally, one team will qualify from the group that includes the host nation, ensuring all spots in the tournament are filled.
Match Preview
Although Algeria has already secured its place in the finals, the team aims to finish the qualifiers on a high note with a strong performance against Liberia. The game will also serve as an opportunity for coach Petkovic to test strategies and players in preparation for the AFCON finals.
