Algiers – Participants in a discussion on heritage and civilization, held on Saturday in Algiers, underscored the importance of preserving and transmitting Algeria’s rich cultural and historical legacy to future generations through recognition and active promotion.

During the 27th Algiers International Book Fair (SILA), Professor Lakhdar Boultif delivered a lecture titled “Algeria, Land of History and Civilization.” He emphasized the need for a cohesive vision to rehabilitate Algeria’s cultural and intellectual heritage, passed down through various historical eras.

Historical Contributions of Algerian Scholars

Professor Boultif highlighted key milestones in Algeria’s history, shedding light on the significant contributions of Algerian scholars over the centuries. He noted that Algeria has both produced and hosted remarkable intellectuals who excelled in diverse fields, particularly Islamic jurisprudence and social sciences, leaving an enduring impact on the Mediterranean region and Africa.

The Role of Cultural Awareness

Anthropology professor and director of the National Center for Research in Prehistory and Anthropology, Professor Slimane Hachi, focused on the richness of Algeria’s cultural heritage. He described it as a “valuable legacy” for current generations, reflecting Algeria’s profound history and identity.

Professor Hachi stressed the importance of fostering public awareness about Algeria’s cultural heritage, as it serves as a “living testament” to the nation’s deep historical roots and cultural identity. Preserving traditional practices and knowledge, he argued, requires a collective consciousness and commitment.

A Successful Conclusion to SILA 2024

The 27th edition of the Algiers International Book Fair, held under the theme “We Read to Triumph” in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the November 1, 1954, Revolution, concluded its ten-day run at the SAFEX Exhibition Palace on Saturday. The event, which began on November 6, featured a variety of cultural activities and showcased Algeria’s vibrant literary scene.
