Tunis, Tunisia – Algerian rower Ibrahim Gendouz, who previously won a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, claimed the gold medal in the 200-meter kayak race on the opening day of the 2024 Arab Canoe Kayak and Paracanoe Championship held in Tunis. His victory brings Algeria’s total gold medal count to an impressive nine.
A Dominant Start for Algeria
The Algerian team dominated the first day of the competition, held in the Tunisian capital, securing nine gold medals across various events.
Ibrahim Gendouz clinched the gold in the 200-meter men’s kayak final, adding to Algeria’s string of victories. Before his triumph, Aya Frefad had already won two gold medals—one in the 200-meter singles and another in the doubles event with her partner, Anfal Arabi.
In the women’s 1000-meter doubles event, Marwa Walh and Dunia Bekhtawi earned another gold medal for Algeria, showcasing their prowess in the competition.
Golden Achievements in Team Events
The Algerian team’s success extended to the youth categories, where Ayoub Boukzoula and Rassim Alyane secured gold in the 1000-meter doubles event for men. Meanwhile, the duo of Aya Frefad and Marwa Walh triumphed in the 1000-meter doubles for women.
Earlier victories included gold medals won by Ayoub Boukzoula and Rassim Alyane in the 200-meter men’s doubles, Marwa Walh and Dunia Bekhtawi in the 200-meter women’s doubles, and Ayoub Boukzoula in the 200-meter men’s singles.
