On Wednesday, Lieutenant General Saïd Chengriha, Minister Delegate to the Algerian Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, held a pivotal meeting with Lieutenant General Engineer Hashim Abdulrazzaq Al-Rifai, Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti National Guard.

According to a statement from Algeria’s Ministry of National Defense, this bilateral meeting took place on the fourth day of Lieutenant General Chengriha’s official visit to Kuwait. High-ranking military officials from both nations attended, with discussions focusing on strengthening military cooperation and exploring new opportunities for collaboration between the two nations’ armed forces.

Historic Ties and Strategic Collaboration

During the meeting, Lieutenant General Chengriha expressed his deep appreciation for the historic and fraternal relations between Algeria and Kuwait. He highlighted that these ties date back to Algeria’s War of Independence in 1954, during which Kuwait played a significant supportive role.

“Algeria and Kuwait share profound relations rooted in the revolutionary period of November 1, 1954. At that time, Kuwait’s leadership and people, under the direction of the late Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah—then Foreign Minister—showed unwavering solidarity with Algeria, including organizing fundraising campaigns for the National Liberation Army,” Chengriha remarked.

He emphasized the exceptional ties between the two nations, reaffirmed by the dedication of their leaders to elevate bilateral relations to new heights. He also noted the positive momentum generated by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s visit to Kuwait in February 2022, which bolstered political coordination and economic partnerships in trade, investment, and beyond.

Chengriha added, “This dynamic political alignment encourages our armies to pursue continuous efforts in building diverse military cooperation that complements this strategic partnership.”

Kuwaiti Acknowledgment of Algeria’s Regional Role

Lieutenant General Engineer Hashim Abdulrazzaq Al-Rifai expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, commending Algeria’s respected role in regional and international arenas. He highlighted Algeria’s contributions as a reliable partner and an influential force in the Arab and African regions.

“This visit marks another milestone in advancing military cooperation between our two nations and sets the stage for further joint efforts,” Al-Rifai noted.

Exclusive Dialogue with the Kuwaiti National Guard Chief

As part of his visit, Lieutenant General Chengriha also held private discussions with Sheikh Mubarak Hamoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Chief of the Kuwaiti National Guard. The two leaders exchanged perspectives on implementing comprehensive and diversified military collaboration in light of the growing ties between Algeria and Kuwait.

This visit underscores the mutual commitment of both nations to fostering robust military and strategic partnerships, aligned with their shared vision of regional stability and progress.
