Seoul – At least 124 people were killed on Sunday in a plane crash while attempting to land in South Korea, according to a new toll from the local fire department.
The South Korean news agency reported that the aircraft, carrying 175 passengers and a six-member crew, skidded off the runway and crashed into a wall at Muan International Airport, located in the southwest of the country, at 9:07 AM local time.
Among the passengers, two held Thai nationality, while the rest were South Korean nationals.
The casualties include 54 male bodies and 57 female bodies, with the gender of 13 additional bodies still unconfirmed.
Currently, 1,562 personnel have been deployed to assist in rescue efforts, including 490 firefighters and 455 police officers, according to the agency.
