Algiers – MC Alger secured a crucial 1-0 victory over TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday night at the 5 July Stadium in Algiers during the fifth round of the CAF Champions League group stage (Group A).
The game’s sole goal came from a penalty kick successfully converted by player Bouras in the 36th minute of the first half after Meziani was fouled in the penalty area.
With this result, MC Alger remains in second place with 8 points, while TP Mazembe sits at the bottom of the group with just 2 points and has been officially eliminated from the competition.
The second match in the group will see Tanzania’s Young Africans (third place with 4 points) face a tough challenge against group leader Al Hilal of Sudan (10 points) in Nouakchott on Sunday night at 8:00 PM.
Group C Fixtures
In Group C, Algeria’s second representative, CR Belouizdad (third place with 6 points), will travel to Johannesburg to face South Africa’s Orlando Pirates (first place with 8 points) in a pivotal match set for Sunday at 2:00 PM.
Meanwhile, Ivorian side Stade d’Abidjan (last place with 1 point) will host Egypt’s Al Ahly (second place with 7 points) on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
Final Round Schedule
The sixth and final round of the group stage will take place on January 17, 18, and 19, 2025.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League.
