
Timimoun – The award ceremony for the fifth edition of the President’s Prize for Amazigh Literature and Language took place on Sunday evening at the open-air theater in Timimoun. The event coincided with the national celebrations of the Amazigh New Year (Yennayer 2975) and was held under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, organized by the High Commission for Amazigh Affairs (HCA) from January 10-12, under the theme “Yennayer… The Authenticity of Victorious Algeria Woven by the Castles of Gourara.”
A Prestigious Cultural Celebration
The ceremony was presided over by HCA Secretary General Si El Hachemi Assad, with the participation of presidential advisor for NGOs and human rights Hamid Lounassi, head of the National Civil Society Observatory Nour-Eddine Ben Brahem, head of the High Authority for Transparency, Prevention, and Anti-Corruption Salima Masrati, parliamentarians, representatives of various institutions, and a large audience.
The President’s Prize recognizes excellence in four categories:
- Non-Material Amazigh Cultural Heritage Research
- Technological Sciences and Digital Innovation
- Linguistics
- Amazigh Literature and Translated Works

Promoting Amazigh Language and Culture
In his speech, Si El Hachemi Assad highlighted the significance of the President’s Prize, established in 2020 by presidential decree, as one of the most prominent mechanisms implemented by the state to promote the Amazigh language and culture. He emphasized that the award seeks to “reward outstanding literary and scientific works and encourage research and creativity in linguistics.”
Assad noted the impressive participation in the past five editions, which demonstrates “the strong enthusiasm and unwavering commitment of Algerians to elevate their national and official language.”
He reiterated that “Yennayer celebrations are not merely festive traditions but a platform to strengthen our national identity, unite our people, and harness our collective energy to build a strong and unified Algeria that is proud of its cultural and linguistic heritage and its sovereign stances.”
Assad expressed gratitude to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his ongoing support and patronage of initiatives that reinforce Algeria’s national identity in all its dimensions.
