Algeria and Senegal Commit to Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Algiers – The Minister of Armed Forces of the Republic of Senegal, Mr. Birame Diop, affirmed on Thursday, January 16, 2025, that Algeria and Senegal have expressed their shared desire to enhance bilateral relations across various sectors.

In a statement following his meeting with the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Diop, who is also the special envoy of Senegalese President Macky Sall, emphasized that he was delivering a message of “friendship and brotherhood” to President Tebboune, along with “congratulations on his re-election for a second presidential term.”

Mr. Diop highlighted that during the meeting, they discussed the key aspects of the strong ties between Algeria and Senegal, stating, “We agreed that the relationship between our two countries is of exceptional quality. We reaffirmed the need to work together to improve, expand, and diversify it, particularly in areas such as education, capacity building, and hydrocarbons.” He also praised Algeria’s expertise in these fields.

Furthermore, the Senegalese official noted that both nations share a deep commitment to “the principle of international solidarity and African integration.” He stated that Algeria and Senegal have decided to collaborate closely to empower African institutions to better support their respective countries in achieving their strategic goals.

This renewed commitment underscores the strong partnership between Algeria and Senegal and reflects their mutual ambition to strengthen ties for the benefit of both nations and the broader African continent.
