Algeria and Greece: A Shared Commitment to Deepening Economic Cooperation

AlgiersAlgeria and Greece are aiming to deepen their economic cooperation and elevate it to match the strong historical and political ties that unite the two nations. This commitment was reaffirmed on Thursday, January 16, 2025, by the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Algeria, Mr. Nikolaos Varegis.

Speaking after presenting his credentials to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Varegis stated, “Algeria and Greece have long-standing ties of friendship as two Mediterranean nations. Both countries are now looking forward to deepening their economic cooperation to bring it to the same level as their historical and political relationship.”

The Greek ambassador noted that he had a fruitful discussion with President Tebboune, adding, “We have decided to intensify our economic relations and elevate them to the level of our historical and political ties.”

Mr. Varegis highlighted that Greece, which has recently begun its term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, aspires to foster a productive partnership with Algeria. He underscored that both nations share common values, including “respect for international law, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter.”

In addition, the ambassador announced plans to hold upcoming political consultations between Algeria and Greece, as well as a joint ministerial meeting aimed at expanding and strengthening bilateral relations.

This initiative reflects the mutual commitment of Algeria and Greece to further enhance their partnership, particularly in the economic domain, while reinforcing the shared principles and values that underpin their collaboration on the international stage.
