Gaza Journalists Under Fire as Israel Pushes New Occupation Plan

In Gaza, the toll on journalists continues to rise. Since the start of Israel’s assault, at least 239 Palestinian reporters have been killed, the latest being Islam Al-Koumi, a writer and content creator who was shot dead on Sunday evening. Rights groups stress that these killings are not isolated incidents but part of a systematic effort to silence those documenting the war’s devastation.

Journalists have been among the most vulnerable, targeted alongside hospitals, families, and children. Each death is seen as an attempt to erase witnesses and prevent the world from seeing the reality on the ground. Critics argue that Western powers—chief among them the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom—share responsibility by providing Israel with weapons, funding, and diplomatic cover.

Meanwhile, Israeli media report that the government has approved a plan to occupy Gaza City, home to nearly a million Palestinians. The strategy involves recalling 60,000 reservists, extending the deployment of 20,000 more, and intensifying operations in the north. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, already under investigation by the International Criminal Court, has backed this roadmap for the full reoccupation of Palestinian territory.

According to local medical sources, famine caused by the siege has already killed more than 260 Palestinians, including over 100 children. Despite rulings from the International Court of Justice ordering an end to the operations, the bombardments continue with U.S. political and military support.

The humanitarian toll is staggering: more than 62,000 Palestinians killed and over 156,000 wounded since the beginning of the offensive—over 70 percent of them women and children.
