Algiers – Joint detachments of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), in coordination with security services, successfully thwarted attempts to smuggle more than 3 quintals of treated hashish across the border with Morocco during the period from August 20 to 26, 2025, according to an operational report released by the ANP on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
The report stated that “within the framework of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and all forms of organized crime, ANP units and detachments carried out numerous operations from August 20 to 26, 2025, achieving significant results that reflect the high professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of our armed forces across the national territory.”
In the context of counter-terrorism efforts, “ANP detachments arrested 3 individuals supporting terrorist groups during various operations across the country.”
Regarding the fight against organized crime and efforts to curb drug trafficking, “joint ANP detachments, in coordination with various security services, arrested 44 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 3 quintals and 3 kilograms of treated hashish across the border with Morocco, while also seizing 889,505 psychotropic tablets,” as detailed in the report.
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, Illizi, and Djanet, “ANP detachments arrested 404 individuals and seized 32 vehicles, 219 generators, 189 jackhammers, and 2 metal detectors, along with quantities of raw gold ore, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations. Additionally, 13 other individuals were arrested, and one automatic pistol, 5 hunting rifles, 25,040 liters of fuel, 10 quintals of tobacco, and 3.34 tons of food items intended for smuggling and speculation were confiscated during various operations.”
Furthermore, “Coast Guard units foiled illegal migration attempts along our national coasts, rescuing 58 individuals aboard traditional boats, while 590 illegal migrants of various nationalities were apprehended across the national territory,” according to the same report.
