Algiers – The Parliament, with both its chambers, officially opened its regular 2025-2026 session on Monday morning in the presence of Prime Minister Saifi Ghrib and members of the government.
The opening of this parliamentary session is in accordance with Article 138 of the Constitution as well as Article 5 of Organic Law No. 16-12, dated August 16, 2016, which defines the organization and functioning of the National People’s Assembly and the Council of the Nation, along with their functional relations with the government, as amended and supplemented.
This session comes at a crucial time as Algeria continues to consolidate the rule of law and reinforce democratic practices within its institutional framework. It reflects President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision for an effective state apparatus that upholds the sovereignty of the nation, defends its national interests, and safeguards its strategic positions in regional and international affairs. In particular, the role of Parliament is pivotal in ensuring legislative support for Algeria’s unwavering stance against Moroccan expansionism and in reaffirming Algeria’s principled solidarity with the Sahrawi people in their fight for self-determination.
The presence of the new government team at the opening session further illustrates the importance of collaborative action between the executive and legislative branches to accelerate development projects, strengthen social policies, and promote Algeria’s position as a leading partner for peace, stability, and economic integration in Africa.
