Air Transport: Saioud Chairs Coordination Meeting to Study Modernization Project of Algiers International Airport

Algiers – The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saioud, chaired a coordination meeting today, Wednesday, in Algiers dedicated to studying the modernization project of Algiers International Airport, according to a ministry statement.

The meeting brought together the ministry’s Secretary-General, the Chief of Staff, the CEO of Air Algérie, the CEO of the National Civil Aviation Agency, the CEO of the Algiers Airport Management Company, the Director-General of Algerian Air Navigation, as well as central officials of the ministry.

During the meeting, the “modernization project of Algiers International Airport was reviewed within the framework of implementing the instructions of the President of the Republic, aiming to develop national airport infrastructure and make Algeria a distinguished international gateway,” according to the same source.

The project will involve, as explained, “the integration of innovative solutions and next-generation equipment, such as smart electronic gates (E-gates), advanced inspection and scanning systems, rapid baggage scanners, in addition to renewing passenger corridors and creating a special lounge for first-class and business passengers, ensuring travelers a smooth and comprehensive experience.”

There was also emphasis on increasing reliance on smart systems instead of human staff to reduce crossing time to a few seconds and achieve optimal flow of movement within the airport.

The meeting culminated recommendations from the minister presented in previous meetings, stressing the need to adopt the latest technological solutions and innovations in inspection and monitoring systems, renovate passenger facilities, and create a seamless and secure travel environment.

In conclusion, the minister stressed the necessity to adopt “effective mechanisms and efficient formulas to accelerate the pace of execution, with adherence to international standards and respect for the highest levels of transparency and applicable laws,” according to the source.
