Judo – 2025 Junior World Championship: Algeria Present with Six Wrestlers at Lima (Peru) Event

Algeria will be represented by six judokas (five men and one woman) at the 2025 Junior World Judo Championships (October 5-8, 2025) scheduled in the Peruvian capital, Lima, according to the organizers.

The athletes are Osama Abdelhaq Hezzel (-66 kg), Ayoub Ben Laarebi (-66 kg), Abdel Salam Belbalhout (-73 kg), Imad Mouhebel (-81 kg), Othman Arabawi (-100 kg) for the men, and Lydia Kachout (+78 kg) for the women.

About 396 judokas (210 men and 186 women) representing 61 countries from various continents will compete, followed by team competitions on October 8.

For men, the weight categories are: -60 kg, -66 kg, -73 kg, -81 kg, -90 kg, -100 kg, +100 kg. For women, they are: -48 kg, -52 kg, -57 kg, -63 kg, -70 kg, -78 kg, +78 kg.

Japan and Brazil have the largest contingents with 18 athletes each, followed by Italy, Kazakhstan, and host country Peru with 17 athletes each. Some countries will have a single representative, such as Lebanon, Sierra Leone, Liechtenstein, Denmark, and the Czech Republic.

In preparation for this global event, the Algerian team is currently training in Uzbekistan from September 12 to 28, after benefiting from several preparatory training camps in August, including a physical training camp in Tikjda (Bouira province). The Algerian Judo Federation stated that this camp “will enable our youth to improve their physical and technical readiness to increase their chances of delivering an honorable performance at the Lima World Championship.”
