French international and Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembélé has achieved a historic milestone by winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or, awarded by France Football magazine, as the best player in the world for the year 2025. This marks the first time in Dembélé’s career that he secures the golden accolade, in a glamorous ceremony held in Paris.
Dembélé’s recognition comes after an extraordinary season with PSG, during which he guided his club to five major titles: the French League, the French Cup, the French Super Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Super Cup. His decisive performances established him among the game’s elite and crowned PSG’s dominance in both domestic and European competitions.
Other awards announced on the same night reflected PSG’s remarkable year. Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, now with Manchester City but formerly a PSG player, earned the Yashin Trophy as the world’s best goalkeeper. Spanish manager Luis Enrique, steering PSG to European glory, was honored with the Johan Cruyff Award as best coach. Rising sensation Lamine Yamal received the Kopa Trophy as world’s best young player.
On the women’s side, Aitana Bonmatí of Barcelona extended her legacy by winning the Ballon d’Or for the third consecutive year, becoming the first female player in history to achieve such a feat. Her teammate Vicky López was named the best young women’s player, while England’s coach Sarina Wiegman won the award for best women’s coach. Arsenal Women were crowned as the best women’s club team of 2025. dzwatch
