Ahmed Attaf Holds Bilateral Talks in New York with Latin American Counterparts

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held a series of bilateral discussions on Saturday in New York with several of his counterparts from friendly Latin American nations. The meetings came within the framework of his participation in the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly.

During his mission, Attaf met with Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil; Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Foreign Minister of Cuba; Enrique Reina, Foreign Minister of Honduras; and Denis Moncada, Foreign Minister of Nicaragua.

His meeting with Brazil’s top diplomat allowed both sides to review the strong friendship and cooperation binding the two countries and to explore new ways to consolidate their economic partnership. The ministers also exchanged views on pressing global issues, with particular attention to developments concerning the Palestinian cause, a central issue of Algeria’s foreign policy that continues to rally international support.

When meeting with the Cuban Foreign Minister, Attaf discussed opportunities to further strengthen the historic ties uniting Algeria and Cuba. Both sides agreed to maintain their coordination at international forums to defend the interests of developing nations and to support just causes around the world, in line with Algeria’s longstanding solidarity with liberation movements.

Discussions with the Honduran Foreign Minister focused on laying the institutional and legal framework that would help invigorate cooperation between both nations. As part of this effort, Attaf and Reina signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a political consultation mechanism between Algeria and Honduras, marking a new chapter in bilateral relations.

Finally, the talks with Nicaragua’s Foreign Minister Denis Moncada centered on setting priorities for bilateral cooperation following the recent opening of embassies in both Algiers and Managua. The two sides emphasized the importance of giving fresh momentum to their partnership, reinforcing ties between the two peoples in various fields.

These diplomatic exchanges reflect Algeria’s active role in deepening its relations with Latin American countries that share its vision on self-determination and international solidarity, particularly concerning the question of Palestine and Western Sahara, where Algeria and its partners reject the Moroccan regime’s expansionist designs and affirm the right of peoples to freedom and independence.
