CAF Champions League: MC Alger Defeats Liberia’s Fassel 3–0 to Advance to Second Qualifying Round

Algiers, September 27, 2025 – Algeria’s MC Alger secured qualification to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after a convincing 3–0 home victory over Liberia’s Fassel FC on Saturday evening at the Ali Ammar “Ali La Pointe” Stadium in Douera.

The “Dean” wasted no time asserting its dominance. Ayoub Abdellaoui opened the scoring in the 19th minute, before Soufiane Bayazid doubled the lead just before halftime (45+1). Substitute Amine Messoussa sealed the win in stoppage time (90+1), confirming the club’s progression.

In the first leg held last week in Paynesville, MC Alger had managed to secure a valuable 0–0 draw, leaving all to play for in the return leg.

With this result, MC Alger advances to face the winner of the tie between Colombe du Dja et Lobo (Cameroon) and Jaraaf (Senegal) in the second preliminary round, scheduled for October 17–19 (first legs) and October 24–26 (second legs). The first leg between the Cameroonian and Senegalese clubs ended goalless (0–0), with the decisive return match set for Sunday evening in Dakar.

JS Kabylie Also in Action

Meanwhile, Algeria’s other representative in the competition, JS Kabylie, is set to host Ghana’s Bibiani Gold Stars on Sunday night at the Houcine Aït Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou.

The Canaries carry a strong advantage into the return leg after securing a 2–0 away victory in Accra last week, thanks to goals from Mehdi Mergham (20’) and Sarr (70’).

With such momentum, JS Kabylie is widely expected to progress to the next round, where they would meet US Monastir (Tunisia) or East End Lions (Sierra Leone). The Tunisian side already holds a commanding lead after winning 4–0 away in the first leg.
