FIFA Announces New Global Peace Award

Washington D.C. – FIFA, the international governing body of football, has announced the creation of a new annual award, the ‘FIFA Peace Award’. The inaugural prize will be presented during the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, scheduled to take place in Washington D.C. on December 5th.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that football is a symbol of peace worldwide. “On behalf of the entire global football community, the FIFA Peace Award will honor the tremendous efforts made by individuals who unite people and spread hope for future generations,” Infantino said in a statement.

The announcement was made during Infantino’s participation in the American Business Forum in Miami. The forum also featured addresses from US President Donald Trump and Argentine football star Lionel Messi, winner of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The identity of the first recipient of the FIFA Peace Award remains undisclosed. The winner will be revealed during the 2026 World Cup draw ceremony. The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The World Cup draw is scheduled to be held on December 5th at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
