Massive Drug Bust in Algiers: 176,000 Pills Seized

Algiers, November 8, 2025 – A major drug trafficking network has been dismantled in the capital, Algiers, resulting in the seizure of 176,000 psychotropic pills. The operation, conducted by the Central Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking (SCLTIS), led to the arrest of six individuals, including one woman.

According to a statement released by the National Security services, the operation was the culmination of intensive field investigations. These investigations allowed SCLTIS investigators to identify and apprehend four members of the organized criminal network operating within various neighborhoods of Algiers. Subsequently, the primary suspect and a female accomplice were also taken into custody.

The seized drugs were identified as Pregabalin capsules of foreign origin. Authorities also recovered the truck used to conceal and transport the narcotics. In addition to the drugs, the operation, conducted under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office, resulted in the recovery of three vehicles and two motorcycles used by the network to carry out their criminal activities.

DZWatch has learned that the suspects have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Khelifa Court. This significant bust underscores the ongoing efforts by Algerian authorities to combat drug trafficking and organized crime within the country.

The successful operation represents a major blow to drug trafficking operations in the capital and demonstrates the effectiveness of the SCLTIS in tackling organized crime. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
