Communication Ministry & Arabic Language Council Sign Landmark Agreement

Algiers, November 4, 2025 – The Ministry of Communication has formalized a cooperation agreement with the Higher Council of the Arabic Language, signaling a reinforced commitment to collaborative efforts between state institutions. The agreement was signed today by the Minister of Communication, Zouhair Bouamama, and the President of the Higher Council of the Arabic Language, Salah Belaid.

Minister Bouamama stated that this agreement aligns with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing a collaborative approach across state entities. He highlighted the agreement’s ambitious scope, encompassing training and research initiatives designed to elevate the status of the Arabic language within the media landscape.

The agreement includes a comprehensive training program for media professionals and the development of a specialized glossary of media and communication terms, a project that will leverage the expertise of professionals in both Arabic language and media fields. “This ambitious program will be complemented by a similar agreement with the High Commission for Amazighity,” Minister Bouamama noted, adding that training sessions in foreign languages, particularly English, will also be organized for journalists.

Salah Belaid lauded the agreement as a tangible demonstration of inter-institutional cooperation in accordance with presidential directives. He announced that the signing would pave the way for the publication of a “Comprehensive Lexicon,” a pioneering resource offering definitions of media terminology in Arabic, English, and French.

The President of the Higher Council of the Arabic Language urged the national media community to actively participate in events celebrating Arabic Language Month. He also reminded attendees that this year’s commemoration of International Arabic Language Day will be held under the patronage of President Tebboune, during which the inaugural President of the Republic Prize for Literature and the Arabic Language will be awarded.
