Czech Civil Protection Delegation Visits Algeria to Bolster Cooperation

A delegation from the Czech Republic’s Fire and Rescue Service, led by Director General Vladimir Vlcek, is currently undertaking a working visit to Algeria from November 7th to 10th. The visit, at the invitation of Colonel Boualem Boughlef, Director General of Algerian Civil Protection, aims to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and the Czech Republic in the fields of civil protection and major risk management.

This visit builds upon Colonel Boughlef’s working visit to the Czech Republic in December 2024, which established a constructive partnership between the two institutions. The current visit focuses on enhancing the exchange of technical expertise and supporting bilateral coordination mechanisms. The Czech delegation will observe the operational capabilities, coordination structures, and training infrastructure of the Algerian Civil Protection.

Furthermore, the visit aims to deepen the exchange of best practices in areas such as preventing and managing natural, industrial, and technological disasters effectively. Colonel Boughlef welcomed the Czech delegation at the National Training and Intervention Unit headquarters, providing a detailed presentation on the sector’s administrative and operational structure, specialized civil protection teams, and Algeria’s field experiences both domestically and internationally. They also exchanged expertise on emergency response and intervention methods.

The delegation also visited the General Directorate of Civil Protection headquarters to learn about the National Operational Coordination Center, where a presentation was given on operational management procedures and digital platforms used for intervention and coordination. On the final day of the visit, the two sides traveled to Bouira province to observe a field exercise for urban search and rescue teams, aimed at preparing support and initial intervention teams for central Algerian states according to international standards.

This visit is expected to enhance the exchange of experiences and comparison of approaches in prevention, early warning, and crisis management. It will also explore new avenues for technical and operational cooperation between the two countries. The visit reflects a shared commitment to building sustainable practical cooperation aimed at raising the level of preparedness and strengthening the ability to face new challenges, especially those related to climate change and major disasters.
