National team coach Madjid Bougherra has addressed concerns surrounding the potential inclusion of Youcef Belaïli in the national squad, following the player’s omission from the main team’s roster. Bougherra clarified the situation during a press conference held today, Sunday, at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki.
Bougherra stated that Belaïli remains a viable option for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the senior national team, explaining his absence from the current local squad. “Belaïli is not absent. He could potentially play in the Africa Cup of Nations with the first team. Players with his talent are needed within the senior national team,” Bougherra emphasized.
The coach also addressed questions regarding the inclusion of experienced players in his squad, specifically mentioning Islam Slimani and Ryad Boudebouz. Bougherra justified their selection by highlighting the need for seasoned professionals with strong personalities in demanding tournaments like the Arab Cup.
“The Arab Cup requires players with experience and a strong character,” Bougherra explained, emphasizing the importance of leadership and resilience in such competitions. He believes that Slimani and Boudebouz bring invaluable qualities to the team, both on and off the field.
Bougherra’s statements aim to dispel any ambiguity surrounding player selection and demonstrate a clear vision for the national team’s preparations for upcoming international competitions. The coach reiterated his commitment to building a competitive squad capable of achieving success on the continental stage.
