Indonesia Mosque Blast Injures Dozens During Friday Prayers

Jakarta, Indonesia – At least 54 people were injured following an explosion inside a mosque in Jakarta during Friday prayers. The incident occurred in the Kelapa Gading area of North Jakarta, prompting a swift response from emergency services and law enforcement.

Initial reports indicate that the explosion took place as worshippers gathered for the weekly Jumu’ah prayer. According to Jakarta’s Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri, the injured sustained varying degrees of wounds. “Preliminary information suggests approximately 54 individuals suffered injuries. Some sustained minor wounds, others moderate, and a number have already been discharged from the hospital,” he stated.

Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the blast. Police are currently on-site, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Two local television channels broadcasted footage showing a security perimeter established around the mosque, with ambulances standing by. Visual assessments of the mosque itself reveal no signs of significant structural damage.
