Algerian hailed a hero for saving train passengers in UK

In a remarkable act of bravery, an Algerian man, Samir Zitouni, has been lauded as a hero in the United Kingdom after intervening in a violent attack on a train traveling from Doncaster to London. The incident, involving a knife-wielding assailant, resulted in multiple injuries before Zitouni’s courageous intervention.

The 48-year-old, captured on onboard cameras, confronted the attacker, preventing what authorities described as a potential catastrophe that could have claimed numerous lives. British Transport Police have hailed Zitouni as a “true hero” who selflessly saved many lives.

Zitouni, known as “Sam” to his colleagues, has worked for LNER train operating company for over two decades. The company issued a statement praising his actions. “In a moment of extreme danger, Sam did not hesitate to protect those around him. His actions were incredibly brave, and we are immensely proud of him and all our colleagues who acted heroically that night.”

Zitouni’s family has expressed their deep gratitude for the support they have received, stating, “We are incredibly proud of Sam and his courage. He has always been a hero to us, not just since this incident.”

British Transport Police Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Candy affirmed that Samir’s actions, as evidenced by the video footage, were undeniably heroic and undoubtedly saved lives.

The incident occurred as police charged a 32-year-old man, Anthony Williams, with 10 counts of attempted murder, as well as charges related to possessing a knife in two separate incidents.

Samir Zitouni’s courageous actions have solidified the image of the brave and compassionate Algerian, demonstrating that distance from home does not diminish a commitment to humanitarian duty.
