Health Minister Undergoes Prostate Cancer Screening in Awareness Push

Blida, Algeria – Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Ait Messoudane, publicly underwent a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test for prostate cancer on Monday, marking the official launch of the national awareness campaign for early detection of the disease.

The Minister, accompanied by the Governor of Blida, Djamel Eddine Hassehas, and the head of the National Committee for Cancer Prevention and Control, participated in the symbolic screening as part of the "Blue November" initiative.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Health, this action serves as "a symbolic step to promote a culture of early detection and encourage men to prioritize their health." The initiative aims to highlight the importance of regular check-ups and early screening for prostate cancer, which is a significant health concern in Algeria and worldwide.

This national campaign is part of the ongoing public health efforts, bolstered by the support of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to strengthen prevention programs and early detection of chronic diseases and cancers. The government aims to ensure that public health services are accessible to all citizens across the country.

The Ministry emphasized that this initiative aligns with the national strategy to promote preventative health and raise awareness about prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men globally and ranks among the top five most prevalent cancers in Algeria.

The Ministry of Health urges all men over the age of 50, or those over 45 with a family history of the disease, to consult their doctor regularly and undergo clinical examinations and PSA testing. These simple procedures take only a few minutes but can be life-saving.
