Algiers, Algeria – Northern Algeria is bracing for an uncharacteristic heatwave expected to begin Tuesday and last through Friday. The western and central regions of the country are predicted to experience particularly high temperatures for this time of year.
Digital weather models indicate a return to stable and clear conditions following recent rainfall. However, this stability will be accompanied by a significant rise in temperatures, pushing them well above the seasonal average.
Temperatures in the central and western regions are forecast to range between 30 and 36 degrees Celsius. These values are considerably higher than the typical temperatures expected during the autumn season. The eastern regions are anticipated to experience milder conditions, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. Southern Algeria will see temperatures between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius.
The cause of this surge in temperature is attributed to a high-pressure system centered over the Mediterranean Sea. This system is driving hot, southerly to southwesterly air currents towards northern Algeria, bringing with them the unseasonably warm conditions.
Looking ahead, long-term forecasts suggest a gradual return to more typical weather patterns starting next Sunday. An active low-pressure system is expected to bring significant rainfall and a noticeable drop in temperatures beginning on Monday. DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
