The African Handball Confederation (CAHB) announced on Monday that the draw for the 27th edition of the Men’s Africa Handball Cup of Nations 2026 will take place this Friday at 2:00 PM Algerian time. According to the CAHB statement, the draw marks a crucial stage in the preparations for the continental championship, scheduled to be held from January 21st to 31st, 2026. The tournament will feature Africa’s elite national teams vying for the coveted title.
The participating teams have been seeded into five tiers based on their continental ranking. Algeria, the runner-up in the previous edition, has been placed in the top tier alongside defending champions Egypt and Tunisia.
The remaining tiers are comprised as follows:
- Tier 2: Cape Verde, Guinea, Morocco.
- Tier 3: Angola, Cameroon, Gabon.
- Tier 4: Rwanda, Benin, Kenya.
- Tier 5: Zambia, Uganda.
The Africa Handball Cup of Nations 2026 serves as a qualifying event for the 2027 World Men’s Handball Championship, which will be held in Germany from January 13th to 31st. The Algerian national team aims to use this opportunity to reclaim its position among the continent’s handball powerhouses.
‘Les Verts’ reached the final of the previous edition held in Cairo in 2024, ultimately losing to the host nation, Egypt, with a score of 29-21.
